Curds and Whey is your first major boss fight of the game. The mission starts at Granny’s house after the I Need Your Strongest Potions quest.
Find Mary Muffet
John Muffet will enter Granny’s house and ask you to rescue his daughter Mary. Granny will direct you to the Deep Dark Forest.
You’ll need to make your way to the final area in the Deep Dark Forest. To do so head back House of Sticks area where you retrieved the spider silk. Make your way to the northeast corner to reach the Spider’s Den area, taking care to avoid the Silk Weaver and Nightshade spiders.
Enter the Spider’s Den and head north past the spiderwebs. You’ll find a pink stool which you can discuss with Helios.
Make your way north, then east, then south , using the Magical Cleaner to unblock the way to the Spider Queen’s Lair.
Spider Queen’s Lair
When you enter the area Helios will warn you to check your potions stock. I brought 10 Minor Rock Bombs, 10 Minor Explosion Potions, 9 Minor Cones of Ice, and 7 Minor Cone of Lavas. However you can easily beat the boss with less potions (~10 explosive or cone types) by taking advantage of environmental hazards.
Move towards the center of the arena to start a cutscene with a spider-human hybrid. After the cutscene the battle will commence.
There are two bars in this battle: a green health bar and a red magic bar. Your goal is to defeat the spiders on the ground to reduce the red magic bar. I was able to defeat them without using too many potions by luring them into the acid pools spit by the queen.
Occasionally the queen will jump down in a stomp attack. Be sure to move out of the way when you see a red circle. You can take the opportunity to throw damage potions while it’s on the ground.
Once you deplete the red bar then Mary will split from the Brood Mother.
Throw all your offensive potions at the Brood Mother. I defeat it pretty quickly using an Minor Rock Bomb while it was walking over an acid pool. The Brood Mother will leave a cryptic message as its final words.
You will receive the Recluse Dethroned achievement and automatically return home to see John Muffet reunite with Mary. As you go to leave town, Calum McDonald will run in and shout that his crops are burning. Thus begins the Golden Fields of Flame quest.
