Ghost of Tsushima and the Legends mode are rated M for Mature Audiences.
Ghost of Tsushima released a new cooperative multiplayer mode called Legends. I’m already hype enough for the PS5 release, and now one of my favorite games this year dropped a free online mode only one month before next-gen launch! It’s certainly a great time to be a gamer.
Legends introduces four classes of characters: Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, and Assassin. Each have unique class abilities and advantages, but equipment can be shared regardless of class. Currently there are two ways to play: Survival or Story. Both modes have four levels of difficulty; higher difficulty equates to tougher enemies, slightly more challenging scenarios, and better rewards.

Story mode has 9 chapters currently; each chapter is a 2-player mission consisting of three distinct parts. There is a transition point between each part which gives you a chance to regroup and take a break if necessary. The entire chapter takes anywhere from 10-30 minutes to complete on Bronze difficulty. The stories progress nicely with the finale set to release at a later point via a Raid mode. Raid mode will consist of several multiplayer teams working together to accomplish an incredibly tough mission.

Survival is a 4-player mode where you must defend key points on a map against waves of enemies. There are very brief pauses between waves which allows your team to regroup, shore up defenses, and prepare for the next wave. The mode takes approximately 30 minutes on Bronze if you survive all 15 waves. It’s an extremely satisfying game mode that requires teamwork and clever use of class abilities.
Things I love about the game:
- It’s free for Ghost of Tsushima owners! There are no microtransactions or any in-game purchases. As long as you have a PS+ connection to play online, you can access everything the game has to offer.
- Performance. There’s an extremely fast transition between main game and Legends mode. If this is on a regular PS4 then I can’t wait to see how it is on PS5!
- Focus on cooperative multiplayer. I’ve always preferred multiplayer games where there are shared objectives, and this delivers!
- Paranormal stories. The Story mode missions are interesting and a bit freaky. It really spices up the storyline!
Overall I highly enjoy Legends mode and plan to play regularly moving forward. It’s encouraging to see review after review come in with high praise for the game. I’m greatly looking forward to the Raid mode set for release in the future!
