Nice to meet you!
I’m Kara, or “KaraBear” when I’m gaming. When people ask me how I pronounce my name, I say “It’s KEH-RAH like a Care Bear.” That led to my friends nicknaming me “KaraBear”, which became my gaming moniker.
Games have been a big part of my life since I was young. My parents were gamers (though they don’t realize it), and many of our family pictures throughout the years include various shots of me and my siblings playing video games together. In some of them we’re clutching Nintendo GameCube controllers, battling for 1st place in Mario Kart. In others my siblings are circled around me on the floor of my room to watch me play Final Fantasy X on my PlayStation 2. All games regardless of system or genre had one thing in common: we experienced them together. My goal for this site is to continue this tradition of sharing positive gaming experiences with others.
My mission is to share positive game experiences with others in order to spread the joy and love of gaming.
My whole life is games… including my career
I had the great privilege of working in the gaming industry for a brand that I’ve loved since I was a child. I worked at Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) on PlayStation Network (PSN). I was a Senior Technical Program Manager, which means I worked with software engineers and product managers to drive delivery of features for the network. I started at SIE as a software engineer writing Java code for backend systems that support PSN.
Due to my previous work experience I tend to play mostly PlayStation games, but I’m no system elitist. I also play regularly on a Nintendo Switch and my partner plays a bit on his Xbox One. I don’t currently game on PC (because honestly I’m too lazy to build a good one) but I do dabble a bit in Mobile games.
I firmly believe that playing or watching a game in *any* fashion is better than NOT playing / watching a game.
What do I write about?
My regular posts are the Weekend Play and Weekly Reads series, though I occasionally post about my Favorite Games as well.
- Weekend Play – Monday post sharing about what I played over the weekend. Each post is a 5-minute read that covers one game.
- Weekly Reads – Friday post sharing game industry articles I read throughout the week. Each post is a 5-minute read that covers no more than five articles.
- Favorite Games – Occasional posts about my favorite games in various categories.
Let’s connect!
Still with me? If so, great! I’m looking forward to sharing the joy of gaming with you.
